ABOUT US

Unique and Diverse

Friendly and Familiar

Undoubtedly, God has created each and every one of us for a specific reason. We believe that God has put together this church, one person at a time. While still being unique, we display a familiarity about us that will allow you to feel right at home. We want you to feel like you're a part of the family.

Our desire is to be a church that makes disciples

that love God and one another with the passion of Christ

which transforms families, our community, and our world.

Our History

First Christian Church is a strong vibrant church which had its beginnings in January, 1930, for the purpose of establishing a New Testament Church in Union. John Stuart Mill and W.B. Adams, ministers with Antioch Christian Church in Leslie, MO, held an evangelistic meeting in Busch's Hall in Union on the fifth Sunday of March that year.

Following the sermon, two Christians became intensely interested in orgainzing a Bible School. They immediately began visisting homes, canvassing the town for people who might be interested in seeing a New Testament Church in Union.

The fruits of their labor were evident on Sunday, April 6, 1930, when thirty-three people met to organize a Bible School. As interest grew and the congregation increased in number, larger quarters were secured in the basement of a home.

Following a Revival meeting held in the Union Park Pavilion, the congregation again secured larger quarters in a store building in the central part of town where they continued to worship until May 16, 1932. The continual growth of the congregation directed the church to build a new building at Reinhard and West Main St.

This building served the congregation from 1932 until June 1970. With continued growth, plans were again made to build a new building at 150 Joel Avenue, with several acres of land to accomodate future growth. With each step of faith, the congregation continues to grow. We praise God for His abundant blessings.

Through the years, the church has continued to make additions to its present facility to provide for the demands of ministry for a growing congregation.

While physical growth is an obvious sign of the health of a congregation, measuring the spiritual growth is a bit different. Not only have numerous people discovered Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, many have answered the call to serve the Kingdom of our Lord and our Christ in ministry and missions around the world. Sending people out into the world to take the gospel message has always been at the heart of First Christian Church. And, God willing, we will continue to raise up servants of God in the years to come.
